Dear Members, Worshippers and Supporters of the Ordinariate
Greetings in the name of Our Lord
Today we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King who invites all of us to embrace, grow and live our lives according to the values of his Kingdom.
Next week is Advent Sunday, the season during which we listen to the voices of Isaiah and John the Baptist. Isaiah promises God’s people both judgment and joy, while John gives us the good news of Jesus’ coming with the call to repent. The gospel writers describe John as,
“A voice crying in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord.'”
Most of the landmass of Australia is a physical wilderness but we are also living in a spiritual wilderness in which the voice of the Church is called to broadcast John’s message of salvation through Jesus. This is the mission of all disciples, but especially those who are called by God to be leaders of his people.
The Ordinariate is observing next week as Vocations Sunday when I ask you to pray intentionally that God will call faithful men to serve him as priests and men and women to serve him in the Religious life or other lay ministries. Without them the mission of the Church will be diminished and its message of salvation muted. I also pray that God will fill each of us with the spirit of evangelistic commitment so that we can provide the resources to form and train those whom he calls to these ministries.
Advent Sunday is the beginning of the season when we not only prepare to celebrate the incarnation of Jesus in Bethlehem, but also prepare for his return when Judgment will be passed on us all. If we are to be prepared as an Ordinariate, I ask you to generously support our Vocations appeal next week, and if possible commit to ongoing support throughout the year.
May God bless you all in our shared ministry and I pray that Advent may be a time of our reflection on the generosity of God who humbled himself to become one of us so that we might be brothers and sisters of his Son Jesus Christ and draw others into responding to the love God has for them.
