Dear Members, Worshippers and Supporters of the Ordinariate
Greetings in the name of Our Lord
Next month we will once again observe the seasons of Advent and Christmas in which the Church invites us to hear the many voices that call to us in the liturgies. Some voices call out from the depths of human despair, others call out summoning us to reach beyond our current selves and become what God has created us to be. Through these voices we glimpse God’s unimaginable glory in his choosing to share our fragile and unpredictable lives through the incarnation of his only Son. This is the good news that we have received and must pass on to future generations.
Yet, as St Paul reminds us:
“How can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?
And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (Rom 10:14)
The Ordinariate need priests, Religious and lay ministers if we are to be able to bring people to love and serve God in the future. In the 5 years since our establishment we have laid some good foundations that now need to be developed.
We all need to pray for vocations to Christian service. We need to identify and encourage young men and women to explore which vocation God is calling them to. We need to provide the financial requirements that will enable these young people to discern their vocation.
This year we will keep Advent Sunday (3 December) as Vocations Sunday. In the 4 weeks leading up to this day we will run a campaign on Facebook, the Ordinariate Website and in parishes, inviting our members and friends to pray, identify and donate. So far this year we have raised just over half of the $40K we need to support our seminarian Nigel McBain in his formation. We have other young adults who are exploring their vocation, so we need to raise another $35K to meet our commitments for this year and cover us during the first months of next year.
Prayer material will be provided, flyers will be posted on social media, and on Advent Sunday I ask you to donate as generously as you can through using the Vocations envelopes and, if possible, to continue your support throughout the year by completing the pledge form.
Advent is the time to announce the coming of our Saviour. Our Vocations appeal will make it possible for those whom God calls to ministry to do this is in the future. Through your prayerful and financial support you will be adding your voice to the Advent chorus proclaiming the good news that ‘God is with us.’
